You become street-smart

Very few people are lucky enough to always be able to afford to travel in full comfort. More often than not, you have to learn how to get by using alternative travel options, and you will need all of the tricks to find transport and accommodation while traveling. While this is a great skill to have at any point in life, the sooner you learn it the more advantages you’ll have down the line.

You learn to handle a budget

Traveling can be a lot less expensive than you may think, but as we mentioned, it still takes some thriftiness. However, if you have a limited budget, you will learn very fast how to make the best use of every last penny, and that’s a skill that we can all make good use out of. It will also teach you what are the necessities you will have to have and what are the pleasures that you can definitely live without.

While you are young and still discovering who you are and who you want to be, the best thing you can do is to surround yourself with as many different people and places as you can. It will help you understand what you want and what you don’t, as well as help you learn some lessons that will be helpful when facing some life-altering decisions. If will help you stay humble, thrive for something great and become a lot more mindful.

You will get the best fares

When you get older, you will miss the days when you could use student discounts not only to get good fares on your flights, but also to get into museums, national parks and other attractions. Use the most of these and see the world while it’s still cheap.

You have time

After you settle into your nine to five, you will understand why the time you had while you were young was so valuable. So, use every spring break and gap year, research schoolies in 2018, volunteer in a faraway country, rent a car with your friends and drive around Europe, and just use the maximum of the free time you have at this point.

Everybody loves a person who is full of stories, and while your friends might be talking about a festival or two that they attended during summer break, you will tell them about the trip to Cambodia, the Amazon rainforests or the open markets of Egypt. You will have so many stories to tell that the people around you are guaranteed never to be bored.
